GRACE HOPE-GILL
“It is unusual to write of a performance of Carmen that Micaëla stole the show[…]so it is entirely to soprano Grace Hope-Gill’s credit that she imbued Micaëla with an energy and spirit that defied conventional performance trends. Hope-Gill’s Micaëla does not sashay around in mini-skirts, but neither is she a whimpering wreck. She has desire, agency, and fortitude, and crucially she isn’t sanctimonious. Hope-Gill’s soprano is did, but powerful, with plenty of lift at the top of the voice and support at the bottom - a singer to watch.”

Je dit que rien ne mépouvante - Carmen, Bizet
"A winsome, slight Micaëla (Grace Hope-Gill) proved a veritable vocal force. The role of Micaëla is Bizet writing at his best for a lyrical soprano, and Hope-Gill made the most of this with a beautifully expressive duet with Don José in Act I (Parle-moi de ma mère) and with an increasingly fiery Je dis que rien ne m'épouvante' which moved from lyrical to dramatic. With fabulous stage presence, she was a convincing and persuasive Micaëla.."
